Reporting a problem
If something isn’t working as it should, it helps to include:
- your Estia version and build number;
- your macOS version;
- a short description of the problem;
- the steps that make it happen, if you can reproduce it;
- screenshots, where they help show the problem.
Please don’t send your private writing unless it’s genuinely needed to understand the problem. A description or a short excerpt is usually enough, and I’ll ask if a file would help.
Common questions
Where does Estia save my writing?
On your Mac, as ordinary Markdown files, in the location you choose. Because they’re plain files, you can open, move and back them up like any others.
Which version of macOS does Estia need?
Estia requires macOS 26 or later. The optional writing-assistance feature also needs a Mac that supports Apple Intelligence; everything else works without it.
Does Estia require an account?
No, there’s no Estia account. If you choose to publish, you’ll need your own account with your Micropub publishing service (such as Pika).
Does Estia send my writing to an AI service?
Estia’s optional writing-assistance feature uses Apple Intelligence on supported Macs. It only runs when you ask for it, and it suggests a structure or outline rather than writing the article for you. It uses Apple’s on-device Foundation Models, and Estia doesn’t send your writing to an AI service operated by its developer. There’s more detail in the Privacy Policy.
What happens if Apple Intelligence or Foundation Models aren’t available?
The optional writing-assistance feature won’t be available, but everything else in Estia, including writing and saving your work, continues to work normally.
Do I need an internet connection?
Not to write. Writing and saving locally works offline. You’ll need a connection to fetch feeds and online sources, and to publish to your Micropub service.
